CONFERENCE OVERVIEW

Please download the full Conference Report that has been compiled by Conference Chair: Maldwyn Buckland. Read about the event, and how the theme Strategic Priorities and Managing Risk facilitated the bringing together of many inter-related issues surrounding the collaborative work undertaken by institutions in both the HE and FE sectors.

During the course of the conference, keynotes, and a wide range of seminar/ workshops contributed to the success of the event and the conference aims to:

Provide participants with an authoritative review of current educational, political and socio-economic policy to inform higher level skills development as part of institutional strategic planning

To provide relevant and appropriate case studies from leading organisations which focus on the practical issues involved and how these have been/can be addressed

To provide an informed assessment of the longer term implications associated with the current educational landscape to assist institutions in developing strategies to manage risk through informed choice

The executive and senior management in further education colleges are currently under external and internal pressure to ensure that higher education and higher level skills training are prioritised as part of their strategic planning.

The challenges include the uncertainty of collaborative partnerships, demand-led funding arrangements, the need to increase commercial income and reacting to a rapidly evolving environment where market potential may be lower than the expectations of policy makers.

This conference brought together expertise and experience to assist colleges in developing strategies to manage risk through informed choice.
